A Man Called Otto is a 2022 comedy-drama movie directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by David Magee. It is the second movie adaptation of the 2012 novel "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman, and an American remake of the 2015 Swedish movie of the identical call written and directed by Hannes Holm. The movie stars Tom Hanks in the title role, with Mariana Treviño, Rachel Keller, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. 

A Man Called Otto started out with a confined theatrical launch on December 30, 2022, rather than an extensive launch within the United States on January 13, 2023. The movie received mixed reviews from critics.

Otto Anderson, a widower in his 60s, resides in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After retiring from operating at a metallic company, he considers killing himself, having misplaced his spouse, Sonya, a schoolteacher, six months previously. 

During his suicide attempt by hanging, he's interrupted by his new neighbours: Marisol, Tommy, and their daughters, Abbie and Luna. Otto has flashbacks to his past when he attempted to enlist in the navy but was unable to do so due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He meets Sonya on a plane after having handed her a textbook. 

Otto tries suicide again, this time through carbon monoxide poisoning. He remembers a past moment when he shared a meal with Sonya, revealing to her that due to his situation, he was not able to join the navy and was unemployed, leading Sonya to kiss him. Marisol interrupts Otto’s suicide attempt, asking him to take her and the children to the medical institution after Tommy fell and broke his leg using a ladder that Otto gave him. He reluctantly agrees. 

Otto flashes back to when he was given his engineering diploma and asks Sonya to marry him. A person faints and falls on the railroad tracks during his suicide attempt by train. Otto comes to the rescue and the event becomes a widely shared story. Otto then takes in a stray cat, which he had found to be an annoyance. Otto takes Marisol for a cooking lesson, arriving at his spouse’s favourite bakery. Otto discovers that Dye and Merica are planning to move Reuben to a retirement home after illegally discovering that Anita was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Marisol refuses to assist Otto until he tells her that he and Sonya went to Niagara Falls to rejoice that they may be having their first son. On their way back home, the bus crashed because of defective brakes, resulting in Sonya being paralysed and having a miscarriage. The neighbourhood is now no longer handicapped-handy to Sonya, and Otto has been voted out of being chairman after having a heated war of words with a Dye and Merica representative. Otto wanted to position all of the groups outside of the enterprise, but he needed to see Sonya. With the assistance of the neighbourhood and the social media journalist, Reuben and Anita can hold down their household. 

Otto collapses and is taken to the medical institution, where he lists Marisol as his next of kin. After being informed by a heart specialist that Otto’s coronary heart is just too big, she laughs, rather than going into labour and giving birth to a son. Otto offers his vintage vehicle to Malcolm and takes Marisol and her children for a ride in his new truck. Years have passed, and Otto has turned out to be desirable pals with Marisol and her own circle of relatives. 

One day, Tommy observes that Otto has not cleared the snow from his walkway. Marisol and Tommy enter Otto's residence to discover him dead, having succumbed to his enlarged coronary heart. A funeral is held, attended by his neighbours.
